Mere Pyare Prime Minister (2019)

Kanhu lives with his single mother Sargam in a crowded Mumbai slum where there are no proper toilets, and women must go out in the dark to relieve themselves. When his mother is attacked one night, Kanhu understands, in his own way, that a toilet would keep her safe. With his gang of slum friends he sets out to get one built, and when local officials will not listen, he decides to write to the Prime Minister and take the letter to Delhi himself. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, director of Rang De Basanti and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, made this small, warm social drama about sanitation and dignity, with Gulzar's lyrics and an affecting lead performance from child actor Om Kanojiya. Anjali Patil, known for Newton, plays the mother.
