Muniyandi is a happy-go-lucky young man in a Tamil village who spends his days drinking and loafing with friends. To win the respect of the woman he loves and of a respected elder of his family, played by Bharathiraja, he joins the police force. Training changes him, but back home a long-standing caste tension between communities flares into violence, and Muniyandi has to choose between his uniform, his kin and his conscience. Padaiveeran ("soldier") marked the lead acting debut of playback singer Vijay Yesudas, son of K. J. Yesudas, and the directing debut of Dhana. Bharathiraja's role was praised. It released in February 2018.
