Description

Dard (1947), whose title means pain, is a romantic drama in which a love triangle brings heartbreak to two women, played by Munawwar Sultana and the singing star Suraiya, who are drawn to the same man. Director A. R. Kardar built the film around its music, and it is best remembered today for Naushad's songs with lyrics by Shakeel Badayuni. Afsana Likh Rahi Hoon, sung by Uma Devi, who later became famous as the comedian Tun Tun, became a huge hit, and Suraiya's songs added to the film's popularity. It is a good example of the melodious tearjerkers of the late 1940s.
