Haq Se (2018)

Haq Se moves the story of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women to modern Kashmir. The Mirza sisters live with their mother in Srinagar, in a home shaped by the unrest around them, and each is very different: one is a fiery would-be journalist, another a gentle dreamer, another drawn to comfort and status. As they grow up they deal with love, money, ambition and the pull between staying and leaving, while the politics of the valley keeps pressing on their private lives. Surveen Chawla and Parul Gulati play two of the sisters and Rajeev Khandelwal plays an important figure in their lives. The series is worth watching for its unusual idea of transplanting a classic novel of sisterhood into a Kashmiri setting, and for its focus on women's choices in a place usually shown on screen only through conflict.
