Fateh Singh is a cheerful, rough-edged Jatt from rural Punjab who dreams of going abroad; Pooja is a modern, ambitious young woman from Patiala heading to Vancouver to study. They meet while chasing visas and dislike each other on sight, and once in Canada circumstances force them to live under one roof. Their culture clash, his rustic habits against her polish, drives a romantic comedy full of sparkling exchanges and Punjabi humour, with Jaswinder Bhalla adding comic support. Jatt & Juliet was a major hit that made Diljit Dosanjh a leading film star as well as a singer and helped revive Punjabi cinema; it was followed by Jatt & Juliet 2 and, years later, Jatt & Juliet 3.
