Bhagwan Parshuram (1970)

Bhagwan Parshuram tells the story of Parshuram, the Brahmin warrior-sage of the Puranas, son of the sage Jamadagni, who receives his divine axe from Shiva and wages war on tyrannical kings. Director Babubhai Mistry was Hindi cinema's great specialist in mythological and fantasy films, celebrated for the trick photography and special effects he created from the 1930s onwards in films such as Sampoorna Ramayana. Here, as in his other films, the gods, curses and miracles of the story are brought to the screen with his signature visual tricks and devotional songs.
