Description

Kanji Lalji Mehta runs a shop selling idols and believes in none of them. When a freak earthquake wrecks only his shop and the insurance company refuses to pay because the policy excludes acts of God, Kanji files a lawsuit against God himself, naming as defendants the godmen and temple trusts who claim to speak for the divine. The case makes him a national figure and a target, and a smiling stranger named Krishna appears at his side. Based on the Gujarati play Kanji Viruddh Kanji, itself inspired by the Australian film The Man Who Sued God, OMG is a sharp, funny attack on religious commerce rather than on faith. Paresh Rawal reprised his stage role, and the film won the National Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. It was remade in Telugu as Gopala Gopala and in Kannada as Mukunda Murari, and was followed by OMG 2 in 2023.
