Gattu has grown up in a Lucknow mohalla where the neighbourhood's unwritten rule is that the girls you grow up with are your sisters, to be protected, never courted. Unfortunately he has been in love with Binny, who lives next door, for years, and every attempt to tell her or her family ends with him being treated like a brother. When Binny's family arranges her marriage to someone else, Gattu has to find a way out of the role everyone has assigned him before it is too late. Rajkummar Rao, then moving from serious roles into small-town comedies, plays Gattu with an awkward, likeable desperation, and the film pokes fun at a very familiar North Indian custom. The soundtrack includes a reworked version of the classic 'Jai Jai Shivshankar'.
