Meerabai Not Out (2008)

Meera is a schoolteacher in Mumbai whose real passion is cricket: she follows every match, worships Sachin Tendulkar and plans her life around fixtures. Her elder brother, played by Mahesh Manjrekar, worries that she will never settle down, and when a suitable young doctor enters the picture the question becomes whether Meera can make room for anything, or anyone, other than the game. The film is a light, warm-hearted comedy-drama about a woman's fandom and the family pressures around it. It gave a lead role to Mandira Bedi, who was then well known to Indian audiences as a television presenter of cricket coverage, which makes the casting a knowing wink. It was directed by Chandrakant Kulkarni, a noted Marathi theatre and film director.
