Veera Kannadiga marked the directorial debut of Meher Ramesh and was one of Puneeth Rajkumar's early hits as a leading man. Puneeth plays a fearless young man from a humble background who stands up for labourers and the poor against a gang that exploits them, and his growing reputation sets him against a powerful underworld. The film was shot simultaneously in Telugu as Andhrawala with Jr NTR, making it an early Kannada-Telugu bilingual effort with two different stars. Veera Kannadiga is a full-blooded mass entertainer with dance numbers that show off Puneeth's energy. In Hindi it circulates as Maseeha Mazdooron Ka.
