Three college friends pool their money to run a resort by the sea, hoping for an easy new start. Soon strange things begin to happen: doors move, voices are heard, and guests flee. Unable to sleep and unable to sell, they turn to John Don Bosco, a calm, bald mentalist who insists he can communicate with spirits. As he investigates, the haunting turns out to be tied to a death the friends never knew about, and the comedy gives way to a mystery about who the ghost was and what it wants. Pretham is a horror comedy that leans more on laughs and suspense than on gore, and Jayasurya's unusual look and manner as the mentalist were widely liked. A sequel, Pretham 2, followed in 2018.
