Vijay is the carefree son of a wealthy businessman and has no wish to tie himself down. To keep his father happy he agrees to marry, but only on his own terms: he and his bride Priya sign a private agreement that the marriage will last a year. Priya, from a middle-class family, accepts for her own reasons and moves into the household, where her warmth begins to win over everyone around her, her husband included. As the deadline approaches, the contract becomes a trap for both of them. Priyamanavale is a remake of the Telugu hit Pavitra Bandham (1996) and was one of the family entertainers that broadened Vijay's appeal beyond youth films around 2000. Simran's performance and S. A. Rajkumar's songs were central to its success. It is known in Hindi as Dil Ki Baat.
