Jayam (2002)

Venkat, a poor and gentle young man, and Sujatha, a girl from a well-off family, fall in love as students. Their romance angers Raghu, a violent and possessive relative who has long wanted to marry Sujatha and has her family's support. As Raghu uses every means to separate them, the love story turns into a chase and a fight for survival. Jayam ("victory") launched the careers of Nithiin and Sadha, both in their debut films, while Gopichand, who had started as a hero, made his mark as a menacing villain. Teja's direction and R. P. Patnaik's songs made it one of the biggest Telugu hits of 2002. It was remade in Tamil the following year with Jayam Ravi, who took his screen name from the film, and Sadha repeated her role.
