Theda Singh is a brash, swaggering man who lives in a Hyderabad slum, drinks, brawls and enjoys being unpredictable. Intelligence officers hunting Bob Marley, a ruthless gangster operating abroad, decide that a man like Theda could get close to him. Meanwhile a young woman searching for her missing sister in Portugal crosses his path, and her search and the manhunt turn out to be linked to a past Theda has kept hidden. Paisa Vasool ("value for money") was Balakrishna's 101st film and his first with director Puri Jagannadh, who wrote the role around the actor's mass image. Much of it was filmed in Portugal, and Balakrishna sang one of the songs, Mama Ek Peg La, himself.
