Captain Jagadish comes home to Mumbai on leave from the army, ready for family time and a reluctantly arranged meeting with Nisha, a spirited boxer. When he witnesses a bomb blast on a city bus and catches one of the men behind it, he learns that a terrorist network has planted sleeper cells across the city, ready to strike all at once. Instead of waiting for the system, he quietly enlists his soldier friends for a daring counter-operation, triggering a cat-and-mouse duel with the cells' ruthless leader. Thuppakki ("gun") was a turning point for Vijay, praised for its smart, tense set-pieces, and became one of his biggest hits. Murugadoss remade it in Hindi as Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (2014) with Akshay Kumar.
