Naachiyaar is an uncompromising police officer in Chennai, feared for her temper and her readiness to use her fists. When a poor, under-age girl, Arasi, is found to be pregnant, a young labourer, Kaathavarayan, is arrested and charged. As Naachiyaar investigates, she finds that the truth is not what everyone has assumed, and she sets out to get justice for the two youngsters whatever it costs. Directed by Bala, known for raw, intense dramas about people on the margins, the film gave Jyothika one of her most forceful roles after her comeback, and G. V. Prakash Kumar won praise for his earnest performance as a young man with very little. The background score is by Ilaiyaraaja.
