Sulu lives with her husband Ashok and their son in a modest flat in Virar on the edge of Mumbai, entering every contest she can find and never letting her lack of a degree dampen her spirits. A visit to a radio station to collect a prize turns into an audition, and to everyone's surprise, including her own, she lands a late-night call-in show. Her warm, husky voice wins listeners, but the new job strains her marriage and her relationship with her family, who are less sure about a housewife with a night shift. Suresh Triveni's debut is a gentle, funny portrait of an ordinary marriage and a woman finding her worth. Vidya Balan won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for the role, and the soundtrack's reworked 'Hawa Hawai' and 'Ban Ja Rani' became hits.
