Sathru (2019)

Prabhakaran, a short-tempered police sub-inspector in Chennai, foils a kidnapping and kills a member of the gang behind it. He is suspended for breaking the rules, but the surviving gang members are not satisfied with that, and they set out to destroy him and everyone close to him within twenty-four hours. Sathru is a tight, mostly night-set Tamil action thriller that plays out as a chase across the city between a lone policeman and a gang of young, ruthless criminals. Kathir, known for Pariyerum Perumal, takes the lead, with Srushti Dange as his fiancée. Director Naveen Nanjundan keeps the pace taut and the runtime lean, and the young antagonists are written as genuinely menacing rather than cartoonish, which gives the cat-and-mouse game its edge.
