Rahul, a carefree young man, spots Priya at an airport on New Year's Eve; when they are stuck in Goa together, an easy friendship turns into love. Back in Hyderabad, however, Priya's elder brother, a dangerously protective man with a grudge, turns out to have a history with Rahul himself, and the lovers must find a way past him. Ishq was written and directed by Vikram K. Kumar, later known for Manam and 24, and was a major comeback hit for Nithiin after a string of failures. The camera work of the veteran P. C. Sreeram and Anoop Rubens's songs gave it a polished, youthful feel, and it began a popular screen pairing of Nithiin and Nithya Menen.
