In the 13th-century Kakatiya kingdom of the Deccan, a king with no male heir has his daughter Rudrama raised in secret as a prince, so that rivals will not seize the throne. She grows into a skilled warrior and statesman, but when the truth comes out, she faces enemies inside the court and outside the borders who will not accept a woman as ruler. Her allies include the outlaw Gona Gannareddy, played with swagger by Allu Arjun, and the prince she marries, played by Rana Daggubati. Gunasekhar spent years on this ambitious historical film, which was shot and promoted in 3D, with Ilaiyaraaja's score and large-scale sets recreating the Kakatiya capital Warangal. Allu Arjun's role won him the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor (Telugu).
