Sandy and Stephanie McVey arrive in India for their honeymoon, not knowing that a thief on the run has slipped the Bloodstone, a fabulous ruby, into their luggage. Soon a ruthless collector, crooked police and assorted villains are after them, and when Stephanie is kidnapped, Sandy turns to Shyam Sabu, a cheerful, fast-talking taxi driver who knows every road and trick in the region. Bloodstone is an Indo-American adventure in the style of Romancing the Stone, produced by Ashok Amritraj and shot on location in South India. It is remembered above all as the only English-language film starring Rajinikanth, who plays Shyam with the swagger and fight scenes of his Tamil films, and fans seek it out as a curiosity of his career.
