Neyyattinkara Gopan turns up in the quiet village of Mudalappally in Palakkad, claiming he has come to buy a piece of property. He charms the locals, takes on the men who have been grabbing land, and strikes up a friendship with Aditi, the village tahsildar, but it soon becomes clear that his real mission is something else and connected to powerful people far away. Aaraattu is an out-and-out masala entertainer designed as a celebration of Mohanlal's screen persona, with constant nods to his famous dialogues and older hits. It was one of the last films of veteran actor Nedumudi Venu, and composer A. R. Rahman appears on screen in the climax. Telugu actor Ramachandra Raju, known from KGF, plays the antagonist. The title refers to a ritual temple procession, a fitting image for a film built around a hero's grand entry.
