Razia Sultana (1961)

This 1961 historical drama tells the story of Razia Sultan, daughter of Sultan Iltutmish, who ruled Delhi in the 13th century as one of the very few women monarchs of medieval India. Nirupa Roy plays the queen, struggling to hold power against nobles who resent a woman ruler, with Jairaj and Agha in supporting roles. It is a black-and-white costume drama of court politics, loyalty and romance, made two decades before Kamal Amrohi's better-known Razia Sultan (1983).
