Rita is a working woman whose life is wrecked when a wealthy, influential man has her convicted of a theft she never committed. Prison hardens her, and when she is released she devises a patient revenge: she will enter his family through his son and destroy his pride from within. The plan is complicated by the fact that the son, played by Sanjay Khan, is a decent man, and her feelings for him begin to get in the way. Intaqam was directed by R. K. Nayyar, Sadhana's husband, and was one of her last big successes before illness slowed her career. Laxmikant-Pyarelal's score includes the Lata Mangeshkar hit Kaise Rahoon Chup, a tipsy party song that remains one of the most popular numbers of the era, and Helen has a memorable dance.
