Arumugam is a fearless, good-natured man from a village whose water is being poisoned by a factory. He travels to Chennai with the villagers' petition, hoping to meet the minister, and instead runs straight into Aadhi, a brutal gangster with political connections. One confrontation leads to the next, and Arumugam turns from petitioner to the man who will bring Aadhi down. Dharani's Dhool followed his hit Dhill with Vikram and confirmed the actor as a top mass hero. Jyothika plays his village sweetheart and Reemma Sen a city girl who falls for him, while Vivek provides comedy. Vidyasagar's songs were hits, especially Singam Pola, sung by folk singer Paravai Muniyamma, who also appears in the film.
