Sekar grew up in awe of Chinna, a gangster whose courage he watched as a child, and he has trained himself to be the perfect bodyguard. When he finally gets into Chinna's gang he proves fearless and fiercely loyal, and the two become as close as brothers. But Chennai's underworld is full of rivals and crooked policemen, and when Sekar falls for Shalini, a cheerful girl who knows nothing of his world, he has to decide how far his loyalty goes. Bheema was a big-budget gangster drama from director Lingusamy, who had made Run and Sandakozhi, and producer A. M. Rathnam. It stars Vikram in a heavily muscled avatar opposite Prakash Raj, and Harris Jayaraj's soundtrack, with songs like "Mudhal Mazhai", was a major hit even though the film itself was delayed for a long time before release.
