Ram is the irresponsible son of a strict, punctual father who has never forgiven him for his laziness. When the whole family boards the Venkatadri Express for a pilgrimage, Ram gets into a scrape and is thrown off the train in the middle of the journey. To save face he has to reach the train's next stops by any means he can find, picking up a sharp young woman, a string of odd characters and a growing set of problems along the way. Venkatadri Express was the debut of writer-director Merlapaka Gandhi and a surprise hit for its young cast, notably helping establish Rakul Preet Singh in Telugu films. The road-trip structure keeps the comedy moving, with Brahmanandam and Nagineedu in strong comic support.
