Bilkis "Bobby" Ahmed lives in the narrow lanes of old Hyderabad near Charminar and wants nothing more than to be a famous private detective, much to the dismay of her conservative father, who wants her married. Her first cases are small, but then a wealthy stranger offers her large sums to find certain people, and Bobby, using a string of disguises, throws herself into the job, until she starts to wonder why he wants them found. Vidya Balan plays Bobby with energy and warmth, transforming herself in a dozen costumes, and the film paints an affectionate portrait of a Muslim family and neighbourhood in Hyderabad. It was the first production of actress Dia Mirza, with Ali Fazal as a TV anchor who falls for Bobby.
