Jayakrishnan is a simple, eager young man whose dream is to be a bodyguard, and he worships Ashokan, the powerful local strongman who once helped his family. Ashokan puts him in charge of guarding his daughter Ammu at college, and Ammu, annoyed at being shadowed, comes up with a plan: she calls him pretending to be an anonymous admirer. The prank turns into something real, and Jayakrishnan falls deeply for the voice on the phone without knowing who she is. Bodyguard was a big hit for Dileep and Nayanthara, and director Siddique went on to remake it in Tamil as Kaavalan (2011) with Vijay and Asin and in Hindi as Bodyguard (2011) with Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor, which became one of the biggest Hindi hits of its year.
