Aarusaamy is a deputy commissioner who believes in results more than rules. Posted to Tirunelveli, where the crime boss Perumal Pichai controls everything from shops to police stations, he first seems to strike a deal with the gangster, then turns on him with relentless force. Along the way he falls for Bhuvana, a cheerful college student, and the romance and comedy with Vivek provide relief from the brawling. Saamy was one of the biggest Tamil hits of 2003 and made Vikram a mass hero, cementing director Hari's reputation for fast, loud, rural cop films. It was remade in Telugu as Lakshmi Narasimha (2004), and a sequel, Saamy Square, followed in 2018.
