Captain Aman is posted to Srinagar, where the army and the local population live in uneasy proximity. He falls for Ada, a lively young Kashmiri woman, and she for him, but her brother is involved with militants, and a love affair between an officer and a local girl is viewed with suspicion on every side. When a crisis forces Aman to choose between duty and the woman he loves, both are caught between loyalties that no one around them will forgive. Yahaan ("Here") was the debut feature of Shoojit Sircar, who later made Vicky Donor and Piku, and the screen debut of Minissha Lamba. It was filmed largely in Kashmir, and Shantanu Moitra's music is one of its strongest assets.
