Mallamma is a young girl from a Telangana village with an extraordinary singing voice, determined to reach Delhi and tell the nation about the suffering of her people. Her journey leads back to the story of Rajanna, a folk singer and freedom fighter who stood up against a cruel landlord and the oppressive forces that ruled the region in the late 1940s, when the princely state of Hyderabad was still to join India. Written and directed by V. Vijayendra Prasad, the screenwriter behind several of his son S. S. Rajamouli's blockbusters, the film had its action scenes directed by Rajamouli himself. M. M. Keeravani's folk-based songs are at the heart of the film, and it won several state Nandi Awards.
