Avatharam is a Telugu devotional fantasy from Kodi Ramakrishna, the director best known for the special-effects hit Ammoru and other films in which a goddess intervenes to protect her devotees. Here Radhika Kumaraswamy plays the young woman at the centre of the story, Bhanupriya appears in a key role, and Richard Rishi co-stars. The film follows the familiar pattern of the genre: a dark, supernatural enemy brings suffering to a pious family, and divine power, shown through visual effects and devotional songs, rises to meet it. It is a modest film, of interest mainly to viewers who enjoy goddess films in the Ammoru tradition.
