Description

Ram Rajya tells the later part of the Ramayana, after Rama's return to Ayodhya. His reign is meant to be the ideal rule of justice, but when a citizen questions Sita's purity after her captivity in Lanka, Rama, bound by his duty as king, sends her away. Sita finds refuge in the ashram of the sage Valmiki, where she gives birth to Lav and Kush, who grow up unaware of who their father is, until the twins' path crosses that of Ayodhya. Director Vijay Bhatt had made a celebrated Ram Rajya in 1943, said to be the only film Mahatma Gandhi ever watched, and this 1967 colour version is his own remake of that story, with Bina Rai as Sita and music by Vasant Desai. It is a favourite for Ram Navami and Dussehra viewing.
