Ugadi (1997)

Ugadi, named after the Telugu new year festival, is a 1997 film directed by S. V. Krishna Reddy, who by then had a run of popular family comedies with Rajendra Prasad and Ali. Unusually, he cast himself as the hero here, besides composing the music, as he did for most of his films. Laila, then early in her career, plays the heroine, with comedian Sudhakar in support. The film follows the director's familiar recipe of romance, family sentiment, comedy and tuneful songs, and is remembered mainly as the one film in which S. V. Krishna Reddy starred in his own film as the lead.
