Thai Jashe! (2016)

The title is the everyday Gujarati phrase "it will happen", the optimistic shrug with which problems are waved away. Malhar Thakar, one of the faces of the new wave of urban Gujarati cinema, plays a young man in Ahmedabad trying to secure his future, a home and the respect of his family, while Monal Gajjar plays the woman in his life and Manoj Joshi a key elder. As his plans hit one obstacle after another, the film finds comedy and warmth in middle-class ambitions. It is a light, likeable entertainer from the period when Gujarati films began winning back city audiences.
