Jeena Yahan (1979)

Jeena Yahan is a 1979 Hindi drama directed by Basu Chatterjee, the film-maker known for gentle middle-class stories such as Rajnigandha, Chhoti Si Baat and Baton Baton Mein. Shabana Azmi and Shekhar Kapur play the leads, and the film follows a quiet relationship between two people and the question of where and how they want to build their lives, told with Chatterjee's usual simplicity and restraint. It is a rare starring role for Shekhar Kapur, who later turned to direction with Masoom, Mr. India and Bandit Queen. Viewers who enjoy the low-key, realistic Hindi cinema of the late 1970s will find it a calm, unhurried film.
