Sivan, a devout and peaceful man, works as one of the men who carry the idol during temple festivals. When his family is destroyed by powerful criminals who escape justice, he quietly begins eliminating them one by one, staying a step ahead of the police. His story is revealed gradually, as is his connection to a young woman who crosses his path. Aalwar is a Tamil revenge action drama with Ajith Kumar, Asin in one of her early Tamil roles and Vivek providing comic relief. It mixes devotional imagery with vigilante action in the mass tradition of its time.
