Ravi spends his days chasing bad debts in Bangalore with his father, who is desperate to see him married. When a lively young woman and her uncle begin running a series of cons on would-be grooms, Ravi is drawn into their games, and the first half plays as brisk romantic comedy built on Ravi Teja's trademark energy and Brahmanandam's clowning. Midway the film turns: a figure from the past recognises Ravi, and a flashback reveals another name, another city and a bloody feud with a gang that once ruled it. The second half becomes a full-blooded revenge drama in which he must settle old scores to protect the people he loves now. Balupu was one of the big Telugu hits of 2013 and helped establish director Gopichand Malineni, who later made Krack with the same lead. The title is a slang word for swagger.
