96 (2018)

Ram is a travel photographer who has never married. Back in his home town of Thanjavur he visits his old school, and his classmates from the 1996 batch organise a reunion in Chennai. Janu, the girl he loved silently in school and lost touch with after he moved away, flies in from Singapore, now married with a child. Over one night the two of them walk, talk and revisit memories, slowly piecing together what really happened between them all those years ago. The film is a quiet, deeply felt romance built almost entirely on two performances and Govind Vasantha's music, and it became one of the most loved Tamil films of its decade. It was remade in Kannada as 99 and in Telugu as Jaanu.
