Johnny Gaddaar (2007)

Five men run a small, close-knit criminal racket under the ageing Seshadri, and they pool their money for one big deal that will set them up for life. Vikram, the youngest, is in love with the wife of one of his partners and needs cash to run away with her, so he decides to double-cross the gang and steal the money. The plan goes wrong almost at once, and each cover-up drags him into a deeper mess. Johnny Gaddaar is a stylish neo-noir thriller by Sriram Raghavan, packed with tributes to Hindi pulp cinema and crime novels, including Vijay Anand's Johny Mera Naam. It was the debut of Neil Nitin Mukesh, and it has become a cult favourite for its tight plotting and retro feel.
