Karuna and Rasool are inseparable childhood friends from a poor neighbourhood in North Chennai, one Hindu and one Muslim, who share everything. As they grow up, the local gangs, politics and the women they love pull them in different directions, and trust slowly turns into betrayal. Drohi, which means traitor, is a gritty drama of friendship and violence set against the city's working-class lanes. It was the first film directed by Sudha Kongara, a former assistant of Mani Ratnam, who later made the acclaimed Irudhi Suttru and Soorarai Pottru.
