Prabha is a breezy, outspoken filmmaker who works on women's issues and gets along wonderfully with her mother-in-law. Learning that the older woman once had two inseparable school friends from whom she was torn apart decades ago, Prabha tracks them down. The three women, now worn down by years of marriage, housework and duty, are coaxed into a trip together, and as they travel they rediscover the girls they once were. Magalir Mattum ("Ladies only") was produced by Suriya and starred his wife Jyothika in her second film after returning to the screen with 36 Vayadhinile. The film is warmly remembered for the chemistry of veteran actresses Urvashi, Bhanupriya and Saranya Ponvannan, and for its gentle, humorous take on women's freedom.
