Kannan and Revathi grew up together in a village and have long loved each other, though neither has said so properly. When her uncles, who are short-tempered and influential, arrange her marriage elsewhere, Kannan's loyal friends decide to act, and a plan to carry her away sets off a chase with the whole family in pursuit. Comedy and village life fill the screen, but the story also asks what Revathi herself wants. Manam Kothi Paravai was one of Sivakarthikeyan's first films as a lead, before he became a major star, and D. Imman's melodic soundtrack was well liked.
