Gautham, a writer who publishes under a pen name, travels with his wife Indu to Kamarottu, a remote village in coastal Karnataka where she wants to fulfil a vow. The village is full of whispers about ghostly figures and disappearances, and Indu is strangely familiar with places she should never have seen. With the help of a curious young journalist, Gautham begins to uncover a decades-old story of crime, folklore and identity that touches his own life. RangiTaranga was Anup Bhandari's first film, with his brother Nirup in the lead, and became a surprise hit, running for months and drawing unusually large audiences for a Kannada film overseas. It appeared on the list of films eligible for the Academy Awards that year, and the coastal Bhuta Kola rituals give it a strong local flavour.
