Sri Shirdi Saibaba Mahathyam ("the glory of Shirdi Sai Baba") retells the life of Sai Baba, the saint revered by Hindus and Muslims alike, from his arrival as a young fakir in the village of Shirdi to the years when devotees from far and wide came to him. Through episodes of healing, kindness and miracles, and his message that God is one, the film shows how a mosque-dwelling mendicant transformed the lives of the villagers around him. Vijayachander's calm, dignified portrayal of the saint became the defining image of Sai Baba on screen for many viewers, and Ilaiyaraaja's devotional songs remain popular. Directed by K. Vasu, it is one of the best-known Telugu devotional films of the 1980s.
