Maruthu works as a load-man in the market of Rajapalayam and lives for his grandmother, who raised him and whose word is law in his life. He falls for Bhagyalakshmi, a young woman with a tragedy in her past, and discovers that her troubles are tied to Rolex Pandian, a violent strongman who has political protection and no fear of anyone. Defending her puts Maruthu and his family directly in the path of a man who settles everything with blood. Director M. Muthaiya specialises in rural southern Tamil Nadu dramas full of kinship, pride and village rivalries, and Maruthu follows that pattern, with Soori supplying comedy and R. K. Suresh making a menacing villain. The grandmother-grandson bond gives the film its emotional core.
