Arjun and Kayal have been married for twelve years, but the marriage is over: Kayal wants a divorce and asks Arjun to drive her across Azerbaijan to her parents' home. When their car breaks down on a lonely highway, a friendly couple offer help, and Kayal goes off with them to a roadside diner to find a phone. She never returns, and no one at the diner admits to having seen her. Vidaamuyarchi ("relentless effort") is a taut chase thriller directed by Magizh Thirumeni, known for Thadam and Meaghamann, and it was officially adapted from the Hollywood film Breakdown (1997). It was shot largely in Azerbaijan, whose highways and desert give it a distinctive look, and gives Ajith a rare role as an ordinary man rather than a mass hero. Arjun Sarja and Regina Cassandra play the couple, and Anirudh composed the score.
