Anamika (2008)

Anamika, a simple young woman, meets Rajveer, a wealthy and brooding widower, and marries him after a quick romance. When she moves into his imposing family mansion she finds that it still belongs, in every way that matters, to his dead first wife: her rooms, her portraits and a hostile housekeeper keep her memory alive and make the new bride feel like an intruder. As Anamika tries to understand what really happened to her predecessor, secrets and suspicion close in. The film is an Indian reworking of Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca, famously filmed by Alfred Hitchcock, and was directed by Anant Mahadevan after his thrillers Aksar and Aggar, with Koena Mitra in a striking supporting role.
