Aladin Chatterjee has been teased all his life about his name, and every classmate in the town of Khwaish has rubbed lamps in front of him for fun. He is shy, an orphan and secretly in love with Jasmine, a new student. When he finally finds a real magic lamp, out comes Genius, a flamboyant and tired genie who is only one master away from retirement. As Genius helps Aladin with his three wishes, the dangerous Ringmaster, a former genie with a grudge, arrives to claim the lamp. Sujoy Ghosh's modern fairy tale is an elaborate, effects-heavy fantasy aimed at families, with Amitabh Bachchan having fun as the genie. It marked the film debut of Jacqueline Fernandez, and Vishal–Shekhar composed the songs.
